Mary and Jesus
I assume that's who it is. Mary ("Holy Mary...") is big in Provence. This niche is in the wall and is barely visible in the previous photo. This niche is maybe eight inches high. There are several such mementoes of the Virgin throughout the village, plus a famous chapel, set in a grotto, halfway down the hill to the plain, accessible only via a tortuous path, and created in the 18th century by a sailor saved at sea.
